Continuing our love story, we reach the point of maximal jitters and of course, the big sigh of relief as they join in eternal commitment. Goodness, that sounded quite deep for being 1 in the morning!
There are so many things about this photo taken by Billy which I absolutely adore: the father looking at his girls, the holy books, the moment....story photos are by far my favorite images of any weddings.
Super duper coolest priest EVER.

I’m feeling very theatrical at the moment, so I now present Part 1 of the dramatic love story entitled “Kyle and Rachele’s Wedding” starring two beautiful and nervous souls. Oh la la!
Liesl: (06.22.10 - 4:18 pm) D you are so talented, these are so amazing!!!
I have a confession to make: less than 2 years ago I didn’t like kids. I would freely admit my trip to Disney World was ruined by allowing people under 18 in the park. I would sit in the smoking section of a restaurant just to avoid a toddler. My family would discuss 24/7 babysitting schedules in case I accidentally got pregnant. It wasn’t a secret...I just didn’t like kids.
That was until I met Mark, Judith and their daughter Naomi. The first time they came to our house, Mark plopped the 9-month-old on my lap for dinner. I was mortified but of course I didn’t show my panic as I stared at this little girl while she tried to steal the food off my plate. I was told she was thirsty and handed her bottle, then was embarrassed when asked how to give her a drink. I realized at that moment that my dislike of children really stemmed from fear. As an only child, I didn’t have any babies to practice the whole feeding, holding, diaper, baby talk thing with and I was totally out of my realm.
After several weekly dinners and outings, Naomi started to grow fond of “Aunt Dee”...(that is until Until Bill showed her his Blackberry could play music, dang technology!) and I couldn’t believe it, but I actually enjoyed the company of a child. She provided great entertainment and of course was always a fabulous subject to photograph.
So to the amazement of myself, this little girl had transformed me from Scrooge McDuck to… well, let’s just say I’m more Mister Rogers now without all the sweaters. And the wedding photographer who wouldn’t think of photographing kids is now obsessed with snapping shots of every tiny cutie I can get!
Judith Yount: (06.10.10 - 9:41 am) Dee, I see that you consider me one of the cuties :). Great pictures!
What makes a great photographer? I’m still learning...but something I’ve found to be key is to work quickly and produce results. I photographed at the Charcoal Corral today and when finished, was pulled aside and asked to take a quick portrait of this beautiful family. A few years ago, this would have caused me major panic. The Corral is a busy place with lots of people, signs, tables and distractions. I had less than a minute to find a location, pose my subjects and provide images that would look like they were carefully planned.
I’m thrilled with the results, but I have to give credit to my captivating subjects. Will I ever work with models who arent’ visually deelicious? Haven’t yet!
Today I attended a lovely luncheon for local business women at Hillside Inn in Wyoming, NY (a beautiful wedding reception venue) sponsored by some of my favorite clients, Laura Lane and Kelly Ashcraft of the Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce. It was almost as thrilling as speed dating (something I guess I won’t get to experience in this lifetime, rats!) as we quickly promoted ourselves to a table of new acquaintances for 5 minutes. I touched on my web design and photography, but of course photography is always more interesting so I received numerous questions and compliments while they browsed through my albums.
I really enjoyed meeting so many interesting people in a short amount of time and ended the afternoon with an offer to showcase my work in the local Art Council Gallery. How exciting! I’ve never put on a gallery show before, but as soon as it was suggested, my head exploded with ideas. Luckily, the director was open to a show based on wedding and love portraiture, as much of the photography in this area is of our beautiful landscapes, not people. I’ll keep you posted on details as this is an opportunity I don’t want to slip away!
Though I brought my camera for snapshots, the event was a little too fast-paced to get in any photo time, so I grabbed my girlfriend Bridget and we took this adorable portrait under a tree just waiting to burst with new golden leaves. I think this is the first time we’ve taken a nice photo together. I need to grab more portraits with family and friends, jeesh!
And PS....I’m wearing my favorite dress and shoes at the moment. Yeah, you can’t see the shoes, but trust me, they’re killer cute! Chances are you’ll see me sometime this summer in this dress because I wear it every chance I get. I love the color!!!
Now step away from your computer and go pick some daffodils!
